Jetty Island

We had a lovely adventure yesterday--Jetty Island. It's a 2 mile long nature preserve off the coast of Everett. There are no buildings, no trees, no nothing but grass, driftwood, and beach. There's something so relaxing about spending the day at the beach with nothing to do but beach and lots and lots of beach to do it in.

The water is the usually freezing Puget Sound, but because it's is extremely shallow around the island it warms up. And because it's extremely shallow, the kids can wade out and way far and ride driftwood like bucking broncos or friendly whales, as the case may be. They dug holes and fortified them with seaweed. They dug more holes and created channels to attach them. They went on garbage walks and picked up a demoralizing amount of garbage. They got sun burned and sandy, and they had a great time.

We went with a large crowd from Rose's elementary school. Every year my community there gets larger and tighter. You can make friends post college.
