cooking and vacuuming

The very nice checker at the grocery store asked what David and I had planned for the rest of the day. I wanted to say something like "devise a plan to save the rainforests" or "solve the global financial crisis" but nothing like that was on the agenda, so I listed our two major items: cooking and vacuuming.

We didn't get to the vacuuming.

What we really did:

Read six Magic School Bus books. We learned about electricity, floating and sinking, bats, birds, rocks, and meteorites.

Put the groceries away, tidied the games strewn all over the dining room floor, did the dishes, swept the dining room floor, blew up and tied balloons.

Listened to stories on the ipod. (David)

Napped for a half an hour. (Mommy)

Followed the scientific method:

Observe--This white balloon is getting smaller. (David)
Hypothesize--Maybe it has a hole in it. (Mommy)
Predict--Why don't you go run water in the sink, stick the balloon under the water, and see if bubbles come out of the balloon? If they do, that means air is escaping. (Mommy)
Test--This balloon isn't blowing bubbles, but why don't we fill up a balloon with water and explode it outside? (David)

Filled balloons with water and smashed them on the sidewalk.

Negotiated, fought, compromised, and reasked in a nice voice.

Played a variant of concentration where the cards have to add up to 13. Did a lot of adding.

Cooked Kale with Preserved Lemons and Mussels in a white wine and saffron sauce.
