the chart failed

I want to go on record publically: David's "polite talk" chart was a complete failure. I thought it was working. I told you all how pleased I was that it was working. And it worked in the sense that David cleaned up his language as long as the chart was in action. But, he finished his chart. He got the big pay off--getting his nails done at a salon.

And then announced, "Great, now I can say potty talk again!"

It's been nonstop ever since. I'm trying really hard not to nag, chastise, or threaten about it because that just raises my heart rate and makes no difference in his behavior. He had the audacity to ask for a new chart. He'll stop saying "poopy underpants" every other word, if I give him presents from the dollar store.

I don't think he's finagling and manipulative. I was trying to manipulate him, and he was too clever for me.

I know he's absolutely capable of starting and maintaining good habits. I had to literally sit on him the first few times we started the teeth brushing habit, but he's completely taken charge of it since. I don't even have to remind him. Same with flossing. I don't have a new plan to rid ourselves of potty talk. Currently, when he's not saying poop, he's spouting Beatles' lyrics. If he could just say "All you need is love" all the time, I would be very happy.
