We took the kids to their first Shakespeare play! John's parents always do an excellent job researching activities for our visit to their house. This year they found a kid friendly (i.e. abridged) production of Mid-Summer's Night's Dream playing for free at their local theater.

I was a little worried about David being able to follow it, but we prepped so well, it wasn't a problem. We got a Shakespeare summaries for kids book from their local library complete with a few key quotes and told the story to each other several times. By the time we actually saw it, we didn't need to understand what they were saying; we knew what was going on.

The actors were recent Oberlin grads. It was quite nice to see actually young people playing young people. I liked the costumes and staging. The acting was fine. Usually, I don't like the broad slapstick parts like the laborers putting on their play, but this time I loved it because I knew the kids could relate to that part the best.

There are several Shakespeare in the park series going on in Seattle that I'm going to seriously consider.
