We had a very good time at Folklife this year. Maybe because the kids are getting older. Maybe because we modified our expectations (no trying to dance when on kid duty).

The kids got their faces painted as usual. The artist does a stunning job. Then Rose wanted us to watch a really good magician. We got to be right up front and I have no idea how he did what he did. It was magic! Then we discovered yet another gluten free treat: huge biscuits. We ended up buying 5 of them over the course of the week-end. And since David now likes strawberries thanks to our "you must try new foods" program, he was happy to get the chocolate covered strawberries on a stick.

This year at the wooden boat building he built a very impressive pirate ship. I'm only bummed that the kids' craft section is now on a hot patio instead of the cool grass. While I waited for David, I danced in a kids' dancing tent. I haven't done square dancing in a long long time.

When we back to Folklife on Monday for our performance, it was raining, which meant much more manageable crowds. David bought at extendable fork and Rose got a spoon clip for her hair. Mom took the kids for several hours while John and I changed, rehearsed, performed, and danced. Thank you mom! I just love being in the dancing area at Folklife. There are tons of dancers of course, people I know from different venues around Seattle, but also tons of people who are just trying it out. John and I danced with all the girls (Rose, Miriam, and Ariana), and David played in the computer games museum.
