the first swim of the summer

What? It's not 62 and raining?

The first swim of the summer was just lovely. My mom belongs to a beach club with a heated outdoor pool, and every summer we try to spend a lot of time there. Yesterday, the outside temp was 76, the pool was like a bathtub, and because Rose and David had not brought any other friends with them, they played together. Rose said to me, "I forget what an accomplished swimmer David is." No, David cannot yet pass the swim test, but yes, he is perfectly safe in the pool. The kids lifted each other up, hunted for rings, rode on my back where I am the dolphin and they are the merpeople, and practiced their dives in the deep end. They were so kind and in tune with each other. And as a bonus they got to show off for mom and Grammy.

Oh, I should add as a side note that David's swim lesson once again went swimmingly. He's the best in his class, which is a fine place to start off the summer. We'll move him up a level soon. I watched a mother suffer while her four year old refused to get in the pool. I know. I've been there.
