Father's Day food

I rolled over and mentioned to John that the kids would want to bring him breakfast in bed. What did he want?

Waffles. Oh.

Is everyone very clear that I am not the cook in the house? And waffles are not a regular part of my limited repertoire. But, I persevered. The gluten free pancake mix has a waffle recipe. Rose and I cooked. David set the table. (The no crumbs and syrup in bed applies even on Father's Day.) All was going well until the top of waffle number one stuck. Have you had the pleasure of scraping waffle out of all those little nooks and crannies? When we started again, I soaked the bottom in butter and sprayed the top with three layers. Poor John was seriously hungry, but we got in a groove after that.

Cookies.

But we weren't done in the kitchen. Rose needed to make chocolate chip cookies for the school party. No mix this time. We used gluten-free flour with the Cook's recipe. Rose has a very bad habit of asking for constant confirmation. Is this butter cooled enough? Do you think it is enough? What about the butter?

The first batch went great. Really, really pretty cookies. We ran out of parchment paper for the second batch, so we lost some cookies to the evils of sticking. Rose made a Father's Day cookie by putting m-n-m's in a J for John. That was very sweet.

Popcorn

We went to the Aquasox game in the afternoon. They are a minor league baseball team. I am not a huge baseball fan, but the tickets were cheap, we went with a large gang of friends and relations, and it was an adventure. A cold boring, adventure. There was a total of 12 hits, 4 ours. There were many many strike outs. I tried to support these hard working young men, but it was hard to concentrate on nothing. But, we did get a huge bag of popcorn, which was delicious.
