what David is reading

Last week David went gaga for Garfield. He literally ordered 50 Garfield books from the library and was reading them ten a day. Garfield does not rock my world. One more fat joke I could live without, but I think David appreciates how the lazy cat is always getting the best of his owner John. Actually, who cares why he likes it. Reading is good.

We had David's parent/teacher conference this week, and the teacher mentioned that David tends not to push himself. Like he tests at the 4-5th grade reading level and Garfield is definitely below that. John is very much of the opinion that as long as he loves reading and he is reading, no worries about the level. Reading is good.

I share that view, but we came home from the conference with a long list of book recommendations that David immediately poured over. He decided to read The Lightening Thief which we happened to own thanks to inheriting my friend's son's library. The book is at the high end of his official reading level. He gobbled it down in two days. Over 300 pages, whoosh. He got the second book in the series today and read non-stop for three hours. I knew he could appreciate long complex books because he loves to listen to them on cd, but I'm excited that he can read them for himself as well.
