The last week of school isn't quite chaos, but it's full of atypical activities that involve atypical prep that make me panic that I've forgotten something. For instance, Rose needed to buy kazoos for her orchestra talent show performance of the chicken dance as played on kazoo. I think you should ask her about it. The night we went kazoo shopping, the toy store was closed, the drug store didn't have any, and neither did Fred Meyer. On a whim, I made Rose go back to the drug store and ask someone. Yeah, kazoos. We used to own a lot of kazoos, but the baby toys have pretty much moved out of the house. Sometimes I think longingly of how my grandmother never threw anything out--the old nightgowns that become dust clothes and quilt squares, the balls of string, but the clutter is getting to me and with my organizational skills, I'd never be able to find a kazoo when I needed it anyway.

Another random event this week was getting Rose a hair cut. Rose has long hair and I never think about it, but perhaps I should have realized that with the new dress and new shoes for 8th grade promotion, she might want the split ends removed. Luckily, we have found a new neighborhood person who cuts hair and he had some time this week--yesterday right after picking David up from school. Since I had temporarily lost my car and my mind, John picked up David and I found the car in time to get back to Rose and walk the few blocks where she got her haircut. It was lovely to just sit while they figured it out. Rose was thrilled that he straightened her hair (not permanently).

Tomorrow is the last day of school. I've bought the whipped cream for the ice cream sundaes. I've planned out the kids' new rights and responsibilities. I've told the grandparents where and when 8th grade promotion is. I'm sure there's something I've forgotten. A balloon perhaps?
