Shakira versus JFK

Still searching for my point

"I'm startled by the lightning of seeing you after you're gone"

I came across this quote on an archived episode of This American Life. Apparently, it's an ancient Chinese poem, and this guy interviewed for the "Classifieds" episode used it. What an amazing quote, to cut across oceans and centuries of cultural change and still ring so profound. I'll dedicate it to Karebear, who really needs a hug. I feel for her, I really do.

Ever noticed the line in that (semi) new Liz Phair radio-friendly song is, "Here we are, we're at the beginning/ we haven't fu[bleeep!]ed yet and my head's still spinning"?

If they'll play that on Star 98.7 (LA's local corporate Clear Channel monstrosity), then why can't they play her old "Supernova" song, the one where she sings "You fu[bleeep]k like a Volcano and you're
everything to me"? I used to get a kick out of that every time back in high school. "Liz Phair just said 'fuck'! AND she's hot!" Yep, those were the dayz.

By the way, I'm still debating whether that first Liz Phair lyric is my favorite top 40 line of the last 5 years, or if it's "Lucky that my breasts are small and humble/ so you will not confuse them/ with mountains" by Shakira. I think Shakira wins, because on top of it being just an outrageous lyric, you can barely understand her English, and everyone remembers where they were the first time they asked themselves, "Did she just say what I think she said?" - sorta like when JFK got shot.

Again, I'm 27 and I graduated from college approximately 5 years ago.

And yes, I have a girlfriend. And a job.

And no, obviously I'm not getting a lot done today.
