As if you haven’t noticed, I haven’t been online much. I been busy. It is summer in Ventura, and I have no time for pondering. I must play. The People came up with a new game, and it’s the best ever. It works like this. The People motion for me to come. There is a certain look the People give me, a certain way the People’s eyes take me in, and I know the game is on. I bow. They beckon me. I wu-wuu-wuuu! They whistle low and slow in a way that would be scary to a lesser dog. I wuu again and bow again and my back legs can’t stay still. I am off. Down the hall and into the bedroom. The People are silent. I know the People wait. Without knowing why, my legs carry me back to the People, who stand just inside a door, any door, with that look in the People’s eyes and that hand out calling me to come. I just can’t staaaaand it. I must be off again, and barks and wuus and grraawls come from me without my realizing it. This game makes my hair stand up, and I can play it for hours. If only the People would. Plus, I been busy protecting my house. I am keeper. I watch. I smell. I listen. I hear Rat climbing in the trees that grow up against the terrace. I smell Bigblack when he’s had his fill of Cat’s fish food. I watch Strange People walk Strange Dogs on the street, and sometimes I talk to the dogs and ask them to keep an eye out for Cat. This game of Protector is fun but it wears my butt out. Then I must sleep. Igloo comes in handy then. On Sunday, the People spent a lot of time on the back patio with loud machines and big floppy stuff that they got out of a box, and now there is a big thing in my back yard that I must walk around when I’m looking for my best spot. The People call it a pool. I do not know what that means. But I hope it’s a new summer game, and I hope we can play it soon. It’s summer. Go outside and play. |
