The People have decided it is not enough for Poodle to eat with us and sleep with us and play with us and be with us. The People have decided Poodle must belong to us. I thought she was already mine, but I must have misunderstood. Now the People are talking about foster this and foster that and adopt for good and get Poodle’s picture off that website, and I think there will be big goings on at my house soon. I saw cake in one of the grocery bags. Today the People dress me up in a flag and take me to the 4th of July Street Fair downtown. I walk most of the time, but there are lots of feet and other dogs and stroller wheels and kids with cotton candy wanting to sticky finger my ears, so sometimes the People carry me. And I like that fine. There is much to see. Much to smell. I like smelling the kettle corn the best. One little People gives me some before my People see him and put a stop to it. There are hot dogs. I smell them passing me in the street. My People must not see my tongue water when that hot dog goes by me or they would find one for me. They give me water. It is public dog water, so I do not drink it. I am a private dog. I do not use just any of the public grassy areas and I do not drink public dog water. Oh, I would if I am dying, but I am not dying. Tonight I hear bombs in the distance, and I listen from the terrace that overlooks the street. I seem to remember this part from last year. |
