Grandma's Journal
My Journal

I became a Grandma at the age of 49 years old. Well I was actually only 17 days from being 50. My baby girl gave me gave me my first grandchild. He was a beautiful bouncy boy. Then 2 years later she surprised me on my birthday at 5am by waking me up and telling me "Happy Birthday Mom!" Time to get up we are going to the hospital and having a baby today! I told her NO that's tomorrow. It took a little bit for her to get it through my groggy head that she was going to be giving me a birthday present! and she totally did. She gave me a dark hair beautiful little grand daughter. Now I can enjoy spoiling 2. I have decided that the best thing in the world is being a Grandma! There is nothing that come close to that! I have been married for 30 years to a man that lives for his family. He only wants the best for all of us and spoils us all! He is a good man that works hard for his dollar. We have a pretty good marriage to say the least. Well it must be if we can put up with each others faults this long! My mom who has Alzehimers lives with us and has been for almost 3 years now. She is in the finally stages of the disease and still hangs in there. She loves to grab the broom and sweep. She does this everyday, and several times a day. I keeps her busy. She will even sweep the counch or the kitchen table if you let her. My oldest daughter is going to be 34 years old this year and hasn't lived at home in 16 years. I spend as must time as I can with her. But it is never enough. She plans on coming home to live and take care of us in 7 years. I cant wait! It's my dream to have her home. She is a dear friend to me and we have a great relationship. she always tells me that I am her best friend.

I love Lighthouses, and I collect them. I added a beautiful homemade lighthouse quilt to my collection in November 2008. A friend of my oldest daughter made it for me, and she did a beautiful job. I will treasure it always.

our vacation

We left Memorial Day at 3am...we were in Depoe Bay around 9:00am...the kids were sure surprised...we watched the Fleet of Flowers Display that they have been doing for many years out of Depoe Bay...it is to honor those who have died at Sea and at War...it was really special...

Then it was off to Lincoln City to the Factory Outlet to shop...I got a great buy on a summer dress for $23.00...Neil even managed to find a few tools that he wanted.. then it was off to Moe's for some chowder and shrimp salad....then we were Off to Beverly Beach to set up our part of the tent area, so Neil could sleep...he was very tired...going 30 hours with no sleep is tough, and he got to were his feet wouldn't do what he wanted them to do...so off to bed he went...and I followed him, and we both slept for 14 hours! Must needed sleep let me tell you!

Tuesday brought us to the lighthouse in Newport where everyone wanted to walk down to the tide pools...so to everyone's surprise I even went...we had to walk down so many steps I gave up counting...then it was across the rocks, and boulders...we looked and explored the tide pools with lots of excitement...then it was back up the steps that I had to stop at several of the platforms and rest...but I made it!!! then we went and ate lunch at Lincoln City at the Chowder Bowl. we walked into a few shops and then headed back to camp...we walked down to the beach for some fun and Bryan and Carson flew their kites...we ate dinner at camp, and enjoyed our campfire.

Wednesday we went to the Aqaurium at Newport, walked the boardwalk area and went and did a little shopping...Neil bought me a new Lighthouse salt and pepper set from an gallery that we fell in love with..on our way to Depoe Bay we decided to go to the lighthouse and walk to the top, but by the time we got there, both kids were asleep, so they asked me to stay with the kids in the truck which I was happy to do...for the first time I was able to open my paper back book I had brought...then it was off to Izza's which over looks the ocean for some all you can eat food...then we went to Depoe Bay and we went in some more shops and spent plenty...then back to camp and taco's made by Neil and I around our camp.

Thursday, we all wanted to eat lunch at Moe's in Lincoln City so we headed up there and stopped at the Christmas store so Amy could buy some Christmas orniments, while everyone else went with Amy, I went into a new shop that caught my eye, and it was the cutest shop I had been in - in a long time...the owners name was Sunnie, and she had a working dog due to her health issues...she was a very nice lady and I enjoyed talking to her as much as she enjoyed talking to me....I ended up getting a great buy on a new purse and a pearl braclette! I was feeling pretty good when I walked out of there! the biggest smile on my face you have ever seen!!! We went back to camp and headed to the tent for a nap...well I did anyways! Amy and the kids slept in the truck, and Neil and Bryan talked around the camp fire that they got started...Neil finally woke me up after 3 hours of sleep, and we started cooking dinner, as the kids walked to the park to play...we had corn on the cob, baked beans, and roasted hot dogs, and hamburgers...after dinner Grandma and Grandpa watched Desi while everyone else ran into town so Amy could put in her Avon order, and we started taking down camp...

Friday brought us another beautiful day at the beach and we didn't really want to leave! Neil was the 1st one up and I was the second...we had our half of the tent cleaned up and packed and had started on the kitchen area before the rest of the crew was up and showered and dressed.! gee this felt good for a change we were moving before everyone else...

On our way home we stopped at Tillamok Cheese Factory and took a tour, ate lunch and bought a few things...We parted ways in Portland as Bryan had to swing by his sisters place in Vancover and we stopped at Herman the Stergion and then met up with everyone at the Dallas and ate dinner at Burgerville....we got home around 8pm...

Mom was happy and the house seemed to be in same condition as I left it in! which was great!

Had a wonderful time, and I enjoyed myself for the first time in a very long time...I was able to walk, hike, eat and was healthy!!!!!
