Caitlin has commented that old people, such as myself, tend to buy cars in neutral colors. My selection of a goldish Lexus seemed to cement that in her mind. The cars I've owned have never been in bright shades (blue, dark graphite gray, blue, burgundy, dark red, blue, blue, gold), suggesting perhaps that it is not age that determines car color. At some point in my life I would, however, like to buy a very impractical bright red speck of a car - tiny and slippery in the wind and just for me. Someday.

Movies:
Confidence. Somehow I rented this despite having already seen it. More evidence that Netflix is messing with my mind.

A Walk on the Moon. Although I generally don't quite understand Diane Lane's appeal, in this movie she gives a wonderfully honest performance. During the summer of 1969 she plays a woman who realizes that she's lost herself somewhere on the way to having two children and building a family when she was barely more than a child herself. Her husband (Liev Schreiber), an unimaginative, though not uncaring, man has lost his dreams as well and watches his wife begin to slip away in pursuit of her other self, the one who might have been. Viggo Mortensen plays the other man quietly, giving Diane Lane's character the space she needs, but ultimately concedes his loss of her back to her family. (I also learned from this movie why you should never use the name Chuck to sing The Name Game song with small children. Think about it.)
