My desk chair at work has been a source of continual pain (literally) over the past couple of years. First, I had a gigantic, comfortable black leather Lazy-Boy chair that was deep and soft and cushy, but was not ergonomically adjustable at all (you couldn't change the height of the chair, the arms were in a fixed position, and the back had essentially no support). When I began to have carpal tunnel problems I had my office evaluated and the ergonomic expert gasped when she saw the poor excuse for a chair I was using. She recommended an infintely adjustable chair that I've been using for the past 6 months. Despite its ability to adapt to the shape of just about any human lifeform, I find it intensely uncomfortable and it seems to exacerbate the disc problems I've developed in my neck. I finally convinced the facilities manager to order a Herman Miller Aeron chair me, which I used when I was working in our Cambridge office. We shall see whether this wonder-chair has a positive effect on my back, or if it's just an expensive piece of furniture-art.

Dreams: A boyfriend from my college years was dead asleep (maybe passed out) in the backseat of my car, a classic late 1950s something painted in a pale silvery-blue metallic shade. He was wearing a white crew neck t-shirt under a lime green short-sleeved Qiana shirt (remember that hideous fabric from the 70s? apparently it was code named Fiber Y by Dupont before the name Qiana was derived). For some reason I was trying to get him into the driver’s seat (yeah, yeah, lots of Freudian implications there). He looked just like he did in college. Men age so much better than women do.

Books: Cadillac Beach by Tim Dorsey. Featherweight vacation reading that started to drag toward the end. I did like Serge and his off-center view of the world.
