Did you know that you shouldn’t put a whole egg into a garbage disposal? I didn’t either. It whirrs and whirrs and sounds extremely angry at your ineptness, as if the egg had rolled in there by accident (it had not – the shell was cracked and I have an unnatural fear of salmonella so I discard eggs with the slightest hint of being cracked. I also have an unhealthy fear of trichinosis and contracting it from undercooked pork, along with a phobia about ticks and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, but those are other stories.). The egg does eventually explode (and spray its germ-infested contents back into the sink), but it’s not an advisable stupid human trick because it requires completely disinfecting the sink.

The History Channel is broadcasting a series on the American Presidents which sounds like a treasure trove of little known facts, although I haven’t yet seen it. While browsing the web site devoted to the series I checked out the (highly scientific) poll that asks the question “Which president would you like to add to Mt. Rushmore?” It should be noted that George W. Bush ranks behind Other, and also behind Bill Clinton. To be entirely fair (and balanced), Bill also ranks behind Other, Ronald Reagan and Franklin Roosevelt. And in the spirit of complete disclosure, on the presidential quiz, I scored an embarrassing 2 out of 5. Good thing I don’t ever have the take the SATs again.
