Okay, okay, I found another really cool charity. It has a 4-star rating from CharityNavigator and i had never heard of it until this morning.

In my last blog post, i talked about the museum fairy. Last night Museum Fairies Kate and Glenn took us to the Seattle Art Museum to see the Picasso exhibit. Kat and Glenn have memberships and have treated us over the years to exhibits we never would have been able to attend, but we get to go as their guests. Kate and Glenn are also the Newspaper Fairies in my life. Since we've lived in Seattle, they've brought me the Sunday New York Times to which they subscribe. they save it and every few months THUMP at the door, I get two or three shopping bags and spend endless happy hours newspaper diving. Last night they brought a small bag but it reminded me i had hours to go before I read, so having polished off the Seattle Times in the requisite 20 minutes (except for crossword and coupons), I dove in. I read almost all of the Sunday NYT, even the sports section and yep, that's where i found this new charity.

Back in October, there was a story about people who run the New York Marathon as a fund-raiser. It's a serious athletic event of course, but it's used by lots of people to promote a cause or raise money. And this story featured a group of people raising money for "The Blue Card".

The Blue Card raises money to help Holocaust survivors and their families. These are often people living on hte edge of poverty who for some reason might not have qualified for the compensation give by the German government. It gegan in 1934 in Germany and now exists in the US. It's an amazing organization - they manage administration on legacy and investments so they state that 100% of donations directly serve their clients who need basic financial assistance. They also provide holiday money, monthly stipends, vacations and emergency telephone service. Last year, according to their website, tehy helped over 1,700 survivors, 2/3 of whom live in the greater NY area. Their finances are open, their work looks amazing and thoughtful.

how can you not love this? Huh?
