Movie Madness Edition 3

ok, i only have two films(i have three but i'm not sure of the name of the other, tho i might throw it in anyway).

Amores Perros(translation: Love's a Bitch)

Three little tales connected only by a single accident.

in the first tale, Octavio is in love with his brother's wife. they all live in the same house with the mother, and the wife has one child and soon finds out she's pregnant with another. in order to make money so Octavio and her can run away together, he begins fighting his rotwhieller. he gives most of the money to his brother's wife to stash away. his dog kills the top breeder's dog and he makes one final bet with the guy. when he goes to get the money for his stake of the bet, he finds his brother, the wife and the money gone. the other dog fighter attacks Octavio's beloved dog, and they're chased through the streets(in a car) while trying to get the dog some help. he crashes the car....

enter the beautiful model. she enlists the aid of an actor to pretend to be her lover, when she's really seeing a married business man. the business man sets them up in an condo where she can stare out the window everyday at her billboard. on the day they are to move in together, she goes to the market for wine when she gets in a car accident(Octavio's accident)When the married man finally brings her home from the hospital she is still wheelchair bound. the condo is in need of repair and one day when her boyfriend is gone to work, her dog falls through the floorboards, and try as they might, she can't get him out. the sound of the dog haunts her day and night and slowly their relationship begins to fall apart. she doesn't heal, and eventually, they have to take off her leg. this story was the least interesting of the three.

the third story involves an old bum who wanders the streets with his pack of four dogs. he comes upon the accident, and seeing the injured rotwheiler, he rescues him and nurses him back to health. as we find out tho, the bum is an assassin and hired for a job, he begins stalking his mark. when he arrives back home one day, he finds all his dogs dead, having been killed by the rot. he understands, because once a killer, always a killer. but memories of his daughter he gave up years before haunts him. in the end, he lures both the man who hired him and the one to be killed to his warehouse home, takes the money, sells their cars, and heads off to start a new life.

deep down this is a kind of morality tale, while octavio and the model's lives fall apart because of their immorality, the bum, who has paid dearly for his past immorality, finally does the right thing and in turn is given a chance at renewal.

this was a good movie. it's starts in a tarentino kind of way, with the end being shown before we understand or know the beginning. it's a fascinating look at three different classes of life in Mexico City and I would highly recommend this film.

i give it four paws up(and a tail wag because all stories revolved around the dogs).

Shaun of the Dead

ok, this is my kind of zombie movie. the zombie thing is really overdone and there's no way to bring a fresh perspective to it, until now.

mostly comedy, we are introduced to Shaun, whose girlfriend is tired of going to the same pub, having to put up with Shaun's immature best friend and flat mate, and after three years, she wonders why she's never met his mom.

the third flat mate is tired of the loser friend and Shaun's refusal to grow up, but Shaun can not let him go, as they've been friends forever. As the girlfriend dumps him, zombies begin to take over the country.

this movie is how mr. average guy would deal with zombies. it's funny and i enjoyed it's lighter take on the subject.

i give this four paws up, yep, that's right, four, cuz i love to laugh.

Caberet Baltica

I think that's the name of it. i watched it a while ago on the ifc channel. basically, it's a lot of different stories of one night in postwar sarajevo. the people are desensitized and seem almost matter of fact about the things that happen to them. lots of interesting characters and unbelievable stories that would freak an average american out. well worth a watch to witness life in a country that's still in chaos.

i give this three and a half paws up.

that's it for now!
