So, Phil and I have been talking about potty training and exactly how to go about doing it. We have a toilet top seat for LB that he's sat on sometimes here and there, but without doing anything, which was OK.

I'd been told that sometimes it's easier for kids to poop if they've got something solid to rest their feet on. So we thought maybe a potty chair instead of on the big toilet. We discussed it and even though we were given a potty chair by a friend, we thought that maybe if we let LB pick one out we might have better luck with it. (side note-I originally didn't want a potty seat, wanted him to learn on the big toilet so there wasn't the transition to it, but whatever works!!)

So yesterday we headed to the second hand kids shop, hoping that they'd have some variety for him to choose from. They only had one used, but they had 3 different new styles. And one was a train design, and also the most expensive. Of course that was the one that LB wanted. "I want a chugga chugga choo choo potty seat." is, I believe, exactly what he said.

That evening he asked for his potty seat and so we unpacked it and put it into the bathroom downstairs and he tried it out-with no output.

Now this kid, usually poops in the morning while still in bed. Today we got up, no poop, we hung out, ate breakfast, hung out some more, got ready for class, still no poop. So we headed off to swim class, came home from swim class, and still, no poop. So he's playing in the family room on the floor and looks up at us and says, "I'm pooping." I ask if he wants to poop in his potty seat, he says yes, so we rush off to it. I take off is diaper, which is dry and not poopy yet. He sits down on the potty seat and is clearly pooping (all you parents know the I'm pooping face, right?). Then he says he's done and stands up. Lo and behold, there it was. I was so excited, gave him lots of praise and lots of hugs, and had daddy come do the same too. Wiped his butt, and off to play he went.

The optimist in me thinks that he's going to poop in the toilet now. The pessimist thinks we got lucky. We'll see who's right.

But YAY for this one, it's his first poop in the toilet that I know of.

He's going to HATE me for entries like these when he's a teenager!!
