Gone With the Wind....

Well, Gone With the Wind is certainly an epic, you can say that for sure. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I think I both loved it and hated it, actually. I mean, of course, it had Clark Gable in it, so that part was great. And what a character Rhett Butler is! And Vivian Leigh was perfect for the part of Scarlett. Even so, it was really awful. And also great, in its own screwy way. Sigh. Not much of a review, I know, but my brain is not all the way here right now.

I think the thing that was awful about it (besides the cheeez factor) was the glorification of the Old South. I'd say the over-the-top drama and trauma was awful, but that's what makes it what it is. And truth to tell, I liked how over-the-top it was. Although I have to say, I was unsatisfied at the end. I like movies that wrap up neatly into gift-wrapped packages at the end. On the other hand, the fact that the viewer is left wondering as Scarlett throws herself upon the stairs planning to fix her life "tomorrow" is probably slightly more like real life than the neat bow-tied package ending. I apologize for saying that GWTW has anything remotely related to reality in it, though. That was perhaps taking it a bit too far. :)

I liked the costumes a lot. I want one of those dresses. But holy cow, a 20 inch waist!

Goodnight. Sleep tight. Don't let Ashley Wilkes bite. What a dreadful sop he was!
