Curtains are great. We love curtains.

Especially when said curtains are both a) pretty and b) privacy-protecting. And if they're perfectly proportional too, that's a plus. Ppppp. My new Cost Plus World Market curtains are floor length (which I used to hate and now love) and they make me happy. They're having a sale right now, so if you need curtains, you might want to check them out. I got four ochre-y goldenrod colored ones for the living room sliding glass doors (100% cotton canvas), and (of the same fabric) two burnt orange/sienna ones for the bedroom window (I think Cost Plus calls the color "turmeric"). It turned out that by themselves, even though they're made of heavy cotton, they allow enough light to go through that I was a little worried about privacy. I don't think anyone could actually really see in (except the light fixtures), but I'm sure shadows would be clearly visible at night. My words are somewhat incoherent, but I think you know what I mean. So I got some Indian crinkle voile curtains to go behind the cotton ones. In the bedroom, to go with the burnt orange (it has a slightly pink undertone), I have muted, kind of powdery steel blue ones, and in the living room, to go behind the yellow, I have ones that are like a cream version of the yellow, with a lovely Indian floral pattern printed on. The reds in the floral pattern coordinate nicely with my couch and chair, and help tie together the room, which has a lot of red elements. I was a little concerned before I got those floral print ones to go in back, because with the red couch and essentially yellow curtains, my living room looked very ketchup-and-mustardy. I thought I might have to replace the yellow with something else, which made me sad. The sunlight pouring in through them in the morning was just gorgeous. Of course, now with the voile curtains behind them, the sun doesn't pour in quite so intensely, but it's still lovely, and now there's a hint of a floral pattern that shows through when the curtains are closed, too, and I can open the front ones up in the morning and have my breakfast in privacy while still getting lots of light.

That was a whole lot of words about curtains.

I'm happy that I have real curtains now, can you tell? :)
