After a delayed flight from Las Vegas, I finally got to Denver last night, and there was Cynthia, waiting to take me to her and Vinnie's house! Hooray for friends! I met their dog Zara for the first time; she is cautious about strangers, but every time she came to sniff my foot or my hand, she gave it a little tiny lick, so I was pretty sure I came under the heading of Stranger-That-Just-Might-Be-Okay. And then today she let me pet her just a little bit, and tonight she let me pet her a lot, and she licked all over my face, so I think I'm in now.

Cynthia and I had such a good time today! It was such a girly day, really. We had our eyebrows waxed, and then went out to lunch at this yummy sandwich and salad and pizza and pastry place called Breadworks (where we sat under a large umbrella at an outside table in the sun and then it poured rain all around us), and then we went strolling down Pearl Street, and then we had pedicures. We went to this day spa/salon that definitely had an old lady feel to it, though none of the customers were particularly old. I was kind of hoping to have my toenails painted lime green or something, but the closest I could come was ice blue, and it didn't look very good, so I went for a sparkly, glittery mauve-ish purple instead. I don't think I like the actual color as much as I like the raspberry sorbet pink I usually wear, but I was getting tired of the pink. And glitter is always good.

Then tonight after a little nap, Cynthia, Vinnie and I went out to dinner at The Med in downtown Boulder. The food was fabulous! We started with some tapas, let's see... there was a bowl of steamed mussels served in jalapeno cilantro lemon garlic butter; there was tri-colored hummus; there was roasted garlic with balsamic jam and gorgonzola on crisped bread.... so yummy! Cynthia and Vinnie both had some salad or other that I can't remember but that looked good, and I had a salad of baby spinach, soft goat cheese, walnuts and crispy fried beet shavings in a pomegranate balsamic vinaigrette. Then Vinnie had a steak and frites, and Cynthia and I shared seared wild Alaskan King salmon on a bed of arugula (unfortunately the arugula was too mature, so it was on the bitter side) with cherry tomatoes, avocado and Colorado peaches. So so good. So so friggin' good.

The only sad thing about our dinner (besides the bitterness of the arugula) was that we kind of had to rush out of the hour in order to catch the bus up the hill to the U of Colorado campus where we saw the Colorado Shakespeare Festival production of As You Like It, which was excellent and hilarious. The actors were mostly dressed in 1940s costume, and they put on quite a show. I bought a coffee mug with the Shakespeare-as-Superman logo (click on the Colorado Shakes link above to see the logo). It must be seen to be appreciated.

And now it's getting on towards one in the morning and I think I am turning into a pumpkin. 'Night all.
