Cerulean Sins
Book Eleven in the Anita Blake series
Laurell K. Hamilton

How the mighty have fallen! Once a sworn enemy of all monsters, Anita is now the human consort of both Jean-Claude, the Master Vampire, and Micah, the leopard shapeshifter. Not quite as human as she once was, she is consumed by both their hungers - desires that must be sated time and time again. And when a centuries old vampire targets Jean-Claude and his clan, Anita finds herself tested as never before - needing all the dark forces her passion can muster to save the ones she loves the most.

The main plot of this novel focuses on Anita's new obsessive need for sex with pretty much anything that has legs that is not a chair. The subplot of the visiting powerful vampire is resolved quickly and without any suspense. The other subplot of a killer on the loose is actually interesting and engaging and if they would have stuck with that, then this novel would have been back on track to being the really good supernatural mystery novels they were at the beginning. But, that plot is only a small side note at the end of the book.

In reality, the vast majority of this book is bizarro-sex with monsters. In reading this book, you gain an interesting glimpse into the mind of the author and her deeply embedded psychological issues.

Unless you're reading the entire series like I am (and I'm really beginning to wonder why in the world I made that commitment) or want to read a book that's just Anita having sex with vampire and shapeshifters, then don't even bother. The only reason this is getting two and not one snails is because of the micro plot of the killer striking woman around the city. That, at least, was interesting.

My rating: Two out of five snails.
