I am reading The Knight by Gene Wolfe, and it kept me up well past a reasonable bedtime last night. I don't know how this first of two books will end, but I am really enjoying the journey. Ah, to write as well as Wolfe. I'd feel like a Real Writer (term taken from a recent e-mail exchange with Barth Anderson), the sort of author who manages to craft prose as poetry with a fascinating story told along the way.

I'd love to see a writer shoot a story or poem of the quality that Wolfe produces across the bow of Lone Star Stories. Yep. I sure would like to see that.
