A Beginning

Joseph Haines provided me with a start to the Lone Star Stories collaborative fiction game today. I welcome additions to the story from you, dear reader, if you care to play along.

Without further ado, the opening salvo:

Armando Martinez, who was born of Able Martinez, who came from the line of Carerro, who were born of the descendants of Montezuma, stood at the foot of the Rio Grande river and smiled.

Today, the river will once again taste of fear.

Somewhere on the other side of the river, the descendant of Cortes lived a life free from the knowledge of that fateful day; the day Cortes came with his armies and Montezuma, believing Cortes was Quetzalcoatl returned, opened the gates of his city and let the invaders walk in unscathed. It had only been through the resistance of the people that many of Cortes’ troops died that day.

But the Aztec way of life died that day, too.

Now, on the fifty-second year, as in every fifty-second year since Quetzalcoatl left the world of flesh, his returned was promised.

Somewhere, across the river in Texas, the descendant of Cortes enjoyed his last carefree days.

The Aztec people would be avenged.

A stone bit into Armando’s stomach as he scanned the fence-line through a pair of toy binoculars.

To be continued... by you.
