Pushing Through the Block

Today, I managed to force myself to write past a plot block in my developing short story. It was tough going with a lot of backtracking and wheel-spinning, but I eventually eked out another 600 words before reaching the next scene in the story. I may work on it again tonight, but only if the story really calls to me.

Yesterday, I dealt with the plot block by writing a new flash story that is presently sitting in Claude Lalumiere's in-box for Lost Pages. He'll probably pass on it, but this story is more in keeping with his tastes than prior submissions I've sent his way. The same flash garnered a rewrite request form NFG, which is a first for me. The editor wants it longer and more in-depth than its present form, and I don't want it to be longer and more in-depth right now. I may change my mind, but I like the story as it is right now too much to alter it so significantly.

Jed Hartman, Senior Fiction Editor of Strange Horizons, wrote a very informative post (scroll down to post # 426745) on the Rmumor Mill today regarding publishing online speculative magazines. I highly recommend it to those of you who are considering starting your own webzines or to those of you who are just curious about the topic. It was nice to know that, for the most part, I've been promoting Lone Star Stories in an effective way. I did learn that it's possible to request reviews of a webzine by magazines like Locus. I think I might just ask them to review L*S . . ..
