Listening: Ekova - Space Lullabies and Other Phantasmagore
I'd rather be: having a more normal day
Desiring: control
Enjoying: cool refreshing water

I was originally going to title this "signs that I should have stay in bed" but there is now so much extra... stuff.. to address I can't narrow it down. It's all the extra stuff that beaches itself along the thought streams of my brain that I normally ignore. If I take any up it's to swish it about in a plate with some river water like a '49er panning for gold. But I've clearly lost some skill in that.... I've become so used to just going with routine I let good ideas die and petrify along with the bad ones.

It's been really hot and yesterday I think made some records for the year. 'course we're not breaking any records like they are in Europe, but then staring down the nozzle of 100-degree temps don't tend to faze us, even those of us without AC. But as much I am absolutely loathe to admit it, I must be getting old because I have pretty steady low-grade headache whenever I'm out in the heat. I almost always prefer fresh air to AC, but the un-air conditioned air is currently really dirty and refuses to budge even when a fan is set on full blast. So I have to settle for prefering my office over my apartment because of the AC, eventhough I have a similar aversion to recycled air that people have to reclaimed water.

At work we're barely getting anything done because of some kinda virus/worm thingie that's gotten in and crippled a lot of systems. A patch has been offered but a lot of us have incorrect software for downloading the patch. For me the main problem results in being unable to open something extraneous to a browser. I can't right-click to open a link in a new window, I can't use links that would open a new window (which means I can't view or add an comments here on JournalScape), and most impacting to my job is that I can't use the Ctrl+F function in IE or copy + paste on text in browsers. They're so minor, it's easy to over look them as vital functions but I've depended on them for so long that working without is taking me twice as long. ARg.

In other news, KCRW is having their Summer subscription drive so I'm dividing my radio listening time between KPCC and FM94/9 which is a San Diego(!) station that plays what sounds to me to be the 100 hundred alt rock hits of 1994. Seriously. This morning they played Soundgarden. Fucking killer. I have no idea why I can get a San Deigo station up here, some spots have better reception than others, but who cares. You can request a track from an album they play that wasn't promo'd by the company that owns the album/artist and they'll play it! Who the hell does that?!?

And so before diving back into work I'll leave you with this. May your mind be as bent over by the fact that the president of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences is quoting Karl-freaking-Marx to the graduating class of USC's 2003 Cinema/Television School as mine has been.
