2005-07-22 2:34 PM It's been awhile... Mood: Relaxed... Read/Post Comments (0) |
So, I know, it's been awhile since I've written. Frankly, I've just been way too tired to write in my journal.
Berek and I went to San Diego last week for our vacation. It was a really great trip! We had a lot of fun. We got to San Diego on Monday afternoon at about 2. The whole way down we discussed comic book plotlines and the Batman movies. We had seen Batman Begins on Sunday night with my cousin Crystal. IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE! Christian Bale makes the best Batman AND Bruce Wayne. :D I even told Berek that we should change the Orlando Bloom stuff to Christian Bale (but he didn't buy it) :D We wandered around a bit, but pretty much relaxed in the hotel room. On Tuesday, we hit the Midway Museum (which was actually pretty cool). It's a decomissioned aircraft carrier. We got to wander through the main parts of the boat and got to see the barracks, which honestly were reminiscent of coffins... We wandered up above to see the different types of planes and helicopters they had on display. We took a lot of pictures too. :D After the Midway Museum we wandered to the Seaport Village which is right next to the carrier and the convention center. We wandered a few stores and browsed the goods. There was this one great Christmas store. The best part of this store was that it had two stray kitties (which are apparently taken care of by all the vendors) inside. One was sleeping in a basket and the other was taking in some light rays at the second door facing the ocean. SOOOO CUTE! After the village, we headed to Kansas City Barbecue (yes, the one featured in the movie Top Gun) other wise known as "Home of the Sleazy Bar Scene in Top Gun". They had some good barbecue stuff! Yum yum! I especially enjoyed feeding the flock of sparrows. There was actually a couple who had walked away from their food for a moment, only to have it ravaged by little birds. :) Ah, nature, isn't it grand? Then we headed to the San Diego Zoo. OH MY GOODNESS! Talk about monkeys. There was this little monkey which reminded me of Hal (my cat, for those of you readers who don't know). It was grasping at a stick outside of it's enclosure and was trying to figure out how to get it in with him. :D Calculating little bugger. Can you say photo-op? :D He was very photogenic too. We realized by this time that we were burned to a crisp on our arms and faces. It was too late, but we slathered ourselves in sunblock. It actually helped Berek, but I was long gone. :D We pretty much wandered the entire zoo, except the kittay areas. That was okay though, most of them were sleeping anyway. Afterall, they don't wake until dark and by then it's too hard to view them. We went to the hotel and pretty much collapsed. We had to, because Wednesday we were going to meet Ashley at SeaWorld. SeaWorld was fun, but it didn't have the same type of magic it did on my first visit. The thing of it was, it seemed to be off. It was crowded, hot and very busy with shouting kids and hushing parents. The shows were okay, but we got jipped out of our Shamu show. It was supposed to be a 20 minute show and was only 14 or 15 minutes. I'm sorry, for $50 admission, we could've gotten one last jump. It's alright though. I guess they wanted to save energy for the last show of the evening. The dolphins and seal show was great! But holy crap does food cost an arm and a leg. I honestly think it's worse than Disneyland. Damn Anheiser Busch! MONEYGRUBBERS! In any case, we still had a lot of fun. We saw lots of 'roombas' (for those that don't know what a roomba is, it's a ray), sharks, dolphins, and fishays! Woot, so it was kinda worth it. Next time we're in the mood for fishays, we're going to Long Beach Aquarium. Thursday, ah Thursday. We went to ComicCon. What a madhouse! I was really excited. Unfortunately, we hit a bad start because we were waiting in the wrong (long I might add) line. We were pre-registered and didn't have to wait in the ginormous line. We were special. OH well, Berek was reading to me a book whose name cannot be said here. ;) We finally got in and were blown away by the many wonders and sights of wares to be bought. We bought a few things for ourselves and for our friends, but I think I was on overload mode because by 1 o'clock I had a headache brewing. We decided to can the rest of the convention and head to Balboa Park to relax after we picked up some lunch. The problem was, my head was killing me. I could tell a migraine was settling in behind my eyes. As we drove through the gaslamp district a horrible sight befell my eyes. My fairy store (of which I always shop when in San Diego) was gone. Apparently, it had gone under some time ago. *sniffles* I was so angry I was ready to cry. It was the best fairy store I've ever encountered and now it's gone! Not to mention I was having a horrible time with my headache. We drove on to our destination for lunch. In the Frommer's guide to San Diego that we picked up before we left, there was a great Mediterranean style bread and sandwich place called Bread and Cie. We went there to grab lunch to go. I had a tuna sandwich and Berek (well I don't remember what sandwich he had). It came as a boxed lunch. We got bread chips and a yummy sweet bread of our choice. Berek got the lemon bread and I got banana and pecan. We drove to Balboa Park and found a nice tree to sit and picnic underneath. The breeze was wonderful. If I could paint a picture it would be the most perfect day. The sun was shining warmly, but the cool ocean breeze blew softly through the lush green grass. The soft scent of eucalyptus on the air. Berek continued reading to me from our book; it was exactly what I needed. My headache slowly went away and we both felt rested enough to go to the Natural History Museum. It's not as good as ours here in L.A., but it was definately a place I'd go to again. They had this fabulous and informative exhibit on wildfires. They also had fossils on display that you could touch. There were also a lot of taxidermied animals on display which I will admit was a bit creepy, but as long as people learn something why not? They did note that the animals they had were from the 1920's and 1930's or they were animals that died from natural causes. After that, we went to the Fleet Science Museum. This was absolutely wonderful. It was an interactive museum. There were all sorts of doohickeys that you could play with to find out why certain laws of science work. :D Not so good though, for my headache which by the end was escalating. We went back to the hotel because it was time. I crawled into bed and unfortunately felt very nauseous. I was going to throw up. I did the only thing I knew to prevent this, I laid on my left side. I also napped while Berek went out to pick up dinner. We decided to try Jack in the Box because it was close (he was tired too) and something heavy might do my nausea some good. I had been sipping Coca Cola (which I never drink, but cola syrup helps with nausea, by the way thanks Jen :D) all evening but it wasn't helping. The burger I ate slowly and tentatively helped immensely. By 10p.m. I was able to go to sleep without a problem. Friday was convention day and we did the entire day there. We finished up our shopping for us as well as friends. I got several comic books signed by the artists and writers. :D WOOT! I don't know what to do with them though, save for read them. I know most collectors would shoot me to hear me say that, but honestly, I don't care about having things for monetary value, it's simply for recreational value for me. :D Other than that, Friday went smoothly enough. Saturday rolled around and we decided to wander to La Jolla to go to the Scripps Aquarium. It's a really nice facility, but much smaller than the Long Beach Aquarium. I told Berek that any place we visit, if there is an aquarium there, we have to go. :D We also toured the UCSD campus. It's very nice and luscious with greenery. My kinda place, if only they offered a Veterinary School. *sigh* I would love to go to school there. WE NEED MORE VETERINARY SCHOOLS!!! :D We also went to the beach, unfortunately, it was much like Venice (according to Berek). Lots of drinking muscle heads and too much smoking and lots of people in general. It wasn't pleasant because both of us felt very much out of place. So we decided to check into our SUPER DUPER HOTEL room. :D I've NEVER been to a ritzy hotel. This one had everything. It was The Westin in downtown San Diego. They had complimentary water AND lemonade near the elevators in the lobby. Their pool was on the third floor which was also heated. THey had a garden pavilion (which I didn't see a single flower, but it was still nice). Our room was kooshy as all get out! The bed was soft and covered in poofy white blankets. The furniture was deep cherry wood stuff. The bathroom was huge and had marble floors which felt very nice on our achy tootsies. The shower had dual heads and well, the toilet seat even felt nice on my tooshie. WOOT! We even got a free spectacular view of Downtown. Not to mention that night Petco Park (the stadium) had a fabulous fireworks show which we caught from our room because we were on the 12th floor! WOOT! :D By Sunday, we were ready to head home though. We missed the boys who were being taken care of by my cousin. We missed the kooshiness of our own home and well we missed all our family and friends. So this week I've had a slow week at work, because the boss is out of town. They'll be back Monday and everything will resume to normal. (Although, I liked getting out of work at 1) :D That's all for now. Bye. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
