2006-04-02 2:54 PM Workshop, Studying, and Writing Papers, OH MY! Mood: Destressing... Read/Post Comments (0) |
Whew! I finally finished! I had 3 papers due this coming week and I had so little time to finish them! I still have to study for an exam coming up on Wednesday, but I think I can take a little time to myself and actually breathe now.
Yesterday I went to a child development workshop! It was for class credits and I really enjoyed it. It helped that I had someone to go with. I went with Natalie from work. We're becoming really good friends and that makes me happy. We have a lot in common outside of work and that makes for a great relationship. Yay! Friends good! We went to 3 sessions of lectures which spanned over the course of 7 hours. It was well worth it. The first lecture was on child nutrition. Very helpful in a childs' life as well as that of an adult. Can you believe that a lunch consisting of a lunchable, milk, raisins and a yogurt is like handing a 5 year-old 19 sugar cubes! Yeesh! Not to mention the sodium content of this lunch is 1/2 of what a childs intake should be for the entire day! Yeesh! Kind of gets your mind going doesn't it? I mean, looking at what most Americans feed their kids it's no wonder why childhood diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure is on the rise! You never heard about those things while I was growing up, but that was when it all started. It's reasons like this that make me feel good that Berek and I are eating healthier. When we have kids, this'll make all the difference in their lives. The second lecture was on hands-on art that emphasized process-over-product. The lecturer was a bit high strung, but she's a preschool art teacher. 'Nuff said. :) Anyway, she went over how to encourage a child under 5 years-old to create art and how as a parent or teacher to respond to their creativity. It was really neat. We got to do different types of art with regular household items. For example, you can take three or more containers and fill them 3/4 of the way full. Add some dishwashing liquid and blow some bubbles using a straw, then add some food coloring to the bubbles/water and take a piece of paper and blot the paper on the bubbles quickly and see what you've done! It was totally cool. (Note: you have to add the food coloring to the bubbles because otherwise you get a very muted pattern with the colors, unless that's the idea you want.) I have my picture up on the refridgerator. :) I liked that one a lot. The final lecture was on maternal depression. It was a very interesting lecture because it goes over risk-factors, types of depression, and how to identify the symptoms. It also went over the myths of motherhood, childbirth and pregnancy. A very informative lecture by my CD professor. :) Today, I've just been working on laundry and my papers. I am going over to Ashley's house later because her sister has started working with Mary Kay and she wants as many people as she can get to do facials. I remember trying to do Mary Kay and how I just couldn't do it because I was living at my mom's house as well as the fact that I didn't have a car. I think it's helpful however, to help someone who thinks they can make a living off of it. More power to Samantha! :D I've also been spending well-deserved time with Berek. This morning we went to Barnes & Noble so that I could pick up an magazine to find an article to write on, but we also went to browse around. We had a nice lunch in bed (nothing like 'that' mind you) just lounging and enjoying our healthy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with carrot and celery sticks. :) The cats were actually very good too, they didn't bother us too much with begging. (Naboo is very unwilling to let food go without him taking a bite of it {and a finger}.) So that's all I've got to report so far. Toodle-loo!
