2006-04-30 8:49 AM Lost and Found! Mood: Content Read/Post Comments (0) |
Well, we had a very interesting few days. It all started on Thursday night around 11p.m. I got a call from my brother who said that Ebby, my grandpa's miniature schnauzer had gone missing earlier that afternoon. Apparently, they had been out looking for her all night! But she was nowhere to be found.
I was very sad and very worried for my grandpa. He's had this dog since she was a wee pup. I wondered how he was handling this, but apparently he was handling it very stoicly. It was hard to sleep after that despite the fact I had to be up before 6 in the morning. Needless to say, I wasn't up before six. I could barely get up at 6:30 (I had to be at work at 7!). I was thinking about her all day. I told everyone at work to keep their eyes open for her. I went to my parents' house to see how my grandpa was doing because I was able to leave work early. (I also didn't have a car, so I needed to be picked up.) My grandpa was very forlorn, and reasonably so. I talked to him and he was distant. I felt horrible. My mom told me that she was going to go to the shelter the following day (Saturday) to check and see if anyone turned her in. I was hoping she would've already gone there that day, but my mom thought it would be best to wait. (I didn't because they normally only hold animals that were found for about 3 days.) I went around the neighborhood with my mom that day calling out for her and listening at other dogs barking to see if we could identify if someone had her. She is a purebred dog afterall. But to no avail did we find her. (We did have an interesting encounter on the way around the block. There was a guy sitting on the back of a truck and as we were calling out for Ebby, he gestured for us to come over to him. Then he shouted out like a headhunter would. Umm...let's see...GET THE HECK OUTTA THERE! Apparently, the day Ebby went missing he was walking around the block and the guy was there and did it to him too. He was obviously mentally out of it, so I couldn't blame him for being weird, but still...creepy!) Saturday, midday I got the call. My mom had gone to the shelter and they had Ebby! Yay! *Does a little dance* Even my co-workers were happy and shouted, "Hooray!". Someone was kind enough to turn her in. Most people don't do that where purebreds are concerned. It was definately better for them, since she's on a special diet and recently enough had had surgery. In any case, the whole family was elated to have her back. She is now nicknamed "Hobo" and they figured out how she escaped from the backyard and took care of the problem. Ebby has been microchipped and I have convinced my mom to get collars and tags for all the dogs, because had Ebby been wearing a collar and tag, the person who found her could've simply called the house and they would've had her back the same day. (Ebby was turned in on Thursday afternoon.) Well, everything is back to normal at the Parental Household. Bickering, barking, badgering...that's home!
