2006-05-07 9:18 AM Gross! White splotches are gross! Mood: Sick Read/Post Comments (0) |
Well in case you're wondering what this entry is about, I'll come right out and tell you. I have strep throat/pharyngitis! I saw my mom yesterday. She dropped by to pick up some coupons that she had me print up for her. She knew I was sick and after hearing me talk to her for a short amount of time she suggested that I look into my mouth at my throat. She was able to judge by the way I was talking to her that my throat was in considerable pain and that it wasn't a normal sore throat from a cold or flu. She asked me to check Berek and my throats for white spots which would usually indicate strep.
After I came back inside I checked Berek's throat first because he's had his cough and stuff much longer than mine. His throat was clear. I almost didn't check mine, but decided I should follow Dr. Mom's advice. I was totally grossed out at the site I saw! Now just to give you a bit of anatomy on me, my tonsils are enlarged. They always have been. It's just the way I was born. In any case, my tonsils are two extra large orbs in the back of my throat and they were covered in white splotches! EWWWWW! I thought at first maybe it was tofu from the tofu ramen Berek made me earlier. (I usually get some food stuffs stuck in little grooves on my tonsils.) But upon closer inspection, or rather picking of the white material off the rostral part of my tonsil (Yeah, I can do that without triggering my gag reflex.) I looked at it with my own eyes and determined that it doesn't look anywhere close to what tofu looked like. It was very gross so I washed my hands (with lots of antibacterial soap) and decided to call my mom back. (It's funny how often moms come in handy...**note to special new mothers I know**) In any case, she said it has to be strep. Next, we decided I had to go to Urgent Care because the only way this was going to go away is to be on antibiotics. Unfortunately, we had the task of finding who is covered in my HMO network on a Saturday afternoon after 5 p.m! That pretty much meant I was unable to find anyone to talk to in order to get this info and their website is completely useless! I got frustrated and simply called the Urgent Care place I usually went to before I had insurance. As it turns out, they don't use insurance. So, I went in. I figured it couldn't be any worse going to emergency and paying $100 copay. Sure enough, the doctor came in (while Berek and my mom [she drove] talked about old cartoon shows that he used to watch as a kid.) and examined my throat twice (once was with a light, the second time was with a magnifier) and said, "Yep, looks like you've got strep and pharyngitis." So now I'm on some antibiotics...*Sarcastic yay* (Some of you know what that means...bleh.) Well, one thing at a time I suppose. In about a week, I should be back on track. In the meantime...this is apparently how I'm spending my vacation! WHY?! CRUEL WORLD?! WHY?! :) Okay, I'm done with my ranting...or am I?
