2006-11-20 4:27 AM Trip to the Emergency Clinic Take Two! Mood: Frustrated and very exhausted... Read/Post Comments (2) |
It's now 4:27 a.m. I'm exhausted.
As you know, Naboo was taken to the vet twice and then hospitalized last night for excessive vomiting. They told me to call in the morning to see how he was doing. I did. I called at about 10 a.m. and they told me that he hadn't vomited the entire night, but to be sure they wanted to feed him around 3p.m. and then he could go home at 5p.m. I figured that was reasonable because I wanted them to be there and focus on the problem if by chance he did vomit. So I called as planned around 5p.m. I got the doctor (not the same one from admission) telling me that they hadn't fed him yet because they had an emergency surgery and they didn't have time to feed him. "We had to prioritize." **DING DING DING** Um, you don't tell that to an owner. Their animal is the most precious thing to them and you can't put one pet over another. In some cases yes, but you can't tell me that they couldn't have a receptionist come and feed him a small meal? Okay, so that was mistake number one. Then she proceeded to tell me to come and pick him up at 7p.m. provided he doesn't vomit. **DING DING DING** Okay, there's mistake number 2. I'm going to have to pay for your not feeding him on time? (Me, being stupid...I did.) Okay, so nothing else could go wrong, right? Wrong! I called at 7p.m. and they told me that he hadn't vomited, but that they wanted to keep him until 8p.m. **DING DING DING** Doesn't that sound like they're trying to pad their pockets? If he hasn't vomited, then he should be able to go home right? *sigh* Well, we did as we were instructed. At 8:00p.m. (I didn't call) we showed up to pick him up. They at least pro-rated the 12 hour hospitalization fees. So that was something they did alright. In any case, the doctor came out and told us he did very well (this was the cool doctor returning for her shift). She said to resume normal care. We got Naboo home around 8:44p.m. because we waited awhile for the bill, the doctor and them bringing Naboo out. That was fine, but I will admit the anticipation was killing me. Naboo did really well until. We fed him at his normal time (10p.m.), but to our dismay, he threw it up 40 minutes later. *sigh* I decided to wait it out again. He did alright after that and so I decided to try and get some sleep. (Only having 4 hours of sleep for the past 24 hours sucks!) In any case, I decided to sleep in the livingroom with the cats. Just as I laid my head down to rest (at 1:30a.m.), he started heaving again. He threw up. *sigh* At this point, I was up again. I was monitoring his every action. He seemed restless again. He couldn't get comfortable and he wouldn't rest. At 2:30 a.m., he threw up again and that was it. I called the emergency clinic and explained that he was still vomiting. They told me to come back in with him. So we did. The doctor saw us and suggested that either they hospitalize him for the remainder of the night (which by this point was for 4 hours because they close at 8a.m. because they share the facility with an internist.) and keep on anti-emetics and fluids or they give him subcutaneous fluids and an injection of anti-emetic and send him home to then be taken to our regular vet first thing in the morning. We opted out of the hospitalization because honestly, we've spent enough there and for nothing it seems. I know maybe my anger is not placed properly, but I feel like they so aren't treating me right. Well, I asked for the xrays they took last night to show them to my regular vet. Guess what? They can't find them! They didn't even offer to take a new set at no charge because of their failure to log and put them away properly. They'll send them as soon as they find them, they said. That sinches it...don't go to their facility anymore. They're the ones on Ventura Blvd. and Winnetka. Needless to say, I'm not very happy right now. My cat is still ill and I feel like the vet doesn't care. Fortunately, they didn't charge me for another exam fee. That is at least something. But you can bet your bottom that I'm going to call and complain to their manager. I happen to know her and I'm going to explain that maybe I'm a bit spoiled by the service I've provided to clients when I worked at a clinic, but I expected better service then what was given to me. I just really want Naboo to be better and for all of this to just be over. Incidentally, if they can't find out what's wrong with him, they may have to do an ultrasound on him to see if perhaps it's pancreatitis or something else. Keep your fingers crossed for my little guy! Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
