So last Monday we finally got my grandpa's ashes back. Yesterday, the family went to my grandpa's house and we had a memorial for him. We spread his ashes on the property in a lot of the same areas we spread my grandma's ashes. We then mixed his ashes with what was left of my grandma's ashes and put them in my grandpa's urn.

From there, we watched some old videos of camping and stuff. Berek had the priviledge of seeing me on video as an almost 8 year old. Plus, he even got to see an almost 8 year old's butt as she was being bathed by her mother on the camping trip. Oy!!!

It was a very emotional day, but it was a good thing. We each decorated our own mylar balloon for both of my grandparents and then we all went outside and found an open spot in the tall oak canopy to let them free. It was pretty windy so we were waiting for a moment when the wind died down, but my uncle's red balloon flew free and got caught up in some branches. We were so worried that we'd have to climb up to set it free. Meanwhile, my mom cut the strings on all the others and they flew free. Just as we watched them float away, my uncle's balloon managed to free itself and flew off with the others. The wind was so strong higher up in the air that the balloons were already above the mountain range in the west by the time we ran to the end of the street. And my uncle's balloon even caught up. :) It was actually really cool.

We enjoyed a piece of coconut cream pie (because that was my grandpa's favorite) along with sandwiches, fruit and macaroni and potato salads. It was really nice, but still very emotional and stressful.

It was especially weird to be in my grandparent's house and not have them there. My grandpa wasn't sitting in his chair and my grandma wasn't sitting in hers. At least they're together, wherever they are. :)

We didn't have time to make a grocery store run yesterday so we skipped that and worked on our laundry.
