As I write, the Pittsburgh Pirates are 3-0. That is awesome. Could this year be the first since 1993 when they post a winning record? No, probably not. But still, it would be pretty awesome.

Through three games, closer Salomon Torres has three saves. He is on pace for 162 saves. That would eclipse the previous record by a lot.

The Bucs' opening day roster featured Don Kelly, who like myself and gold-medal winning wrestler Kurt Angle, attended Mt. Lebanon H.S. He is currently 0-for-1 at the plate this season. Don't worry, Don, we're all behind you. Except for my friend Lyndon, who upon learning of his 0-for-1-manship, noted, "Ha! Score one for us!" Kind of like claiming your O.J. prize.

Speaking of bad fans, my co-worker Jim has got to be the worst fan ever. He hails from Indiana and claims Chicago as his own. During the Super Bowl, he gave up on his Bears while they were only down a touchdown in the first half, for which he took quite the verbal beat-down. Then, when the Cubs fell down 3-0 in the 3rd inning of Opening Day, he gave up them too, exclaiming, "I'm already over it." With six-plus innings left in the game. With 161 regular season games to follow. That's the spirit.

Say what you want to, but that Antonella Barba is a class act.

Great moments in Pirates history since Barry Bonds left and became massively steroidal:

-July 2003 - Randall Simon hits a woman dressed up in a sausage outfit with a baseball bat. He is fined $432 for disorderly conduct in Milwaukee.

-June 2001 - Manager Lloyd McClendon, upset over a call, steals first base. As in he picks it up and leaves the field with it upon being ejected.

-That is all.
