David Feintuch RIP

I was talking to a friend of mine this morning when he mentioned that David Feintuch, a science fiction/fantasy writer who we both enjoyed, had passed away over a year ago. It was the first I'd heard of it. The reason we touched on the subject in the first place was because, as I've mentioned in previous posts, I used to be very involved in helping to maintain a forum at Delphi Internet Services back in the '90's. At one point my main duty was organizing and running chats, or conferences. I also maintained a webpage with various forum items featured on it. I was looking at the contents of an old floppy disc I had with some of the files on it, and came across a forum visit and conference that we held with Mr. Feintuch, right around the time his fifth novel came out. I mentioned to my friend that I had been reading the text of those old conferences, and he mentioned that Feintuch had died.

Turns out that he died on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the age of 61, from apparently long standing cardiac problems. He was the author of 9 novels, including 7 books in the Nicholas Seafort Saga (ie, MIDSHIPMAN'S HOPE, etc) and two books in a fantasy series, the Rodrigo of Caledon books. I haven't read anything from the fantasy series, though I have THE STILL sitting on a shelf somewhere, but the Seafort books were quite exciting SF/Military fiction.

I will miss reading additions to this series. RIP, David Feintuch...
