Bears vs. Packers

I'm not the biggest football fan, just basically a fair-weather Bears fan. (If they're going well, I pay attention, if they're not I can find plenty of other things to do.) But it's playoffs, and there's a matchup in the postseason happening at 2 pm CST Sunday that hasn't occurred since 1941: Bears vs. Packers.

I don't claim to know a lot about football. I follow baseball and basketball much more carefully, and I played both games more as a youth. In college, when it came time to make up intramural teams in our dorm wing, I signed up for none of the football teams. (I was too small and not very good.) But I know when a team looks good and both of these teams have looked good this year.

It's an exciting rivalry when it's good like it is this year. But it's always a rivalry. Coach Lovie Smith lists his goals as 1.) Beat the Packers, 2.) Win the division, 3.) Get to the Superbowl. It's that important to Chicagoans and cheeseheads, er, ah, Wisconsin natives.

So I heard this joke on sports radio this morning:

"Did you hear that last night the library in Green Bay burned to the ground?"

"No, I didn't hear that..."

"Yeah! Both books were completely destroyed!"

(laughter)

"And one of them hadn't even been colored in yet!"

Go Bears!!!
