Sunday Five

Because it's Sunday night and I'm too tired to think hard, I'm jumping onto a new meme (via Tiffany Trent)!

What were you doing five years ago?
Five years ago, in 2003, I was living in our first house in Leeds, and my awesome brother Ben was visiting me in England for the first time. I was officially working on my PhD thesis in music history and unofficially writing a lot of fiction. One of those last two things is still true...

What are five things on your to-do list for today (not in any particular order)?
Today I:
1) went to Bolton Abbey (yay!) with Patrick, Maya, and our guests
2) worked on revisions in the Tea Cottage next to the abbey, fortified by carrot-and-coriander soup with warm, crusty bread and rewarded by a scone with butter and jam afterwards
3) had a nice family phone call
4) wrote emails
5) and, for the first time ever, won a game of LotR Trivial Pursuit. Yay!

What are five snacks you enjoy?
1) Apples with cheddar cheese
2) granola with plain yogurt, honey, muesli, and apple slices
3) anything chocolate (chocolate cake, brownies, chocolate cookies, you name it...)
4) sliced strawberries in milk
5) rice krispies

What five things would you do if you were a billionaire?
1) buy apartments in Vienna, Stockholm and London for my frequent visits
2) buy an old baronial mansion in Scotland to live in the rest of the time (or, heck, maybe I'd even buy a castle - why not?)
3) buy a whole bunch of land and use it to set up a really good, no-kill animal shelter with specialist trainers for behavioral rehabilitation and lots of facilities for animals to exercise and socialize
4) take a cruise around Scandinavia
5) put together an incredible library in my mansion/castle, complete with deep, comfy seats, a fireplace, and of course rows and rows of gleaming wooden bookshelves so high they require a ladder to get to the top shelves

What are five of your bad habits?
1) biting my nails
2) eating too much chocolate when I'm nervous or depressed
3) obsessively over-thinking about the things I'm worried about until they blow out of all proportion and I'm full of irrational despair
4) spending too much time surfing the internet
5) procrastination on tasks that are important but boring

What are five places where you have lived?
1) East Lansing, Michigan
2) Oberlin, Ohio
3) Vienna, Austria
4) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
5) Leeds, England

What are five jobs you've had?
1) Camp counselor
2) Assistant teacher at a daycare
3) Graduate teaching assistant in music history at two different universities
4) English-language teaching assistant at an Austrian secondary school
5) Website editor

If anyone else wants to play, just leave a comment to let me know you've done it - I'd love to read more!
