Little Things

Zeus, usually a morning dog, wanted to sleep in this morning. When I got out of bed, he lifted his head to stare at me with disapproval. The right side of his face was all squashed from sleeping on it. I smiled early today.

I brought different CDs to work with me, something I keep forgetting to do. I’ve been singing with the Ramones, the Pogues, Enigma, and the Fountains of Wayne. My job is bearable.

I brought a book by Japrisot to work as well. I’ve stolen a few pages worth of time away from editing, and it has been worthwhile.

The stray kitten in my basement is finally eating regularly. I let her out every once in a while and watch as she follows the dogs around the house trying to rub against them. I wonder if she thinks she’s a beagle.

I washed all of my bedding last night. The smell of Downy gives me better dreams, I think.

The sun came out again this afternoon.

February is a short month.

My landlord hasn’t called for the rent yet.

I’ve been hearing strange noises around the house. Usually I’d fear criminals, rabid animals, demons, or rapists. For some reason, the thuds and clunks haven’t scared me. It must be a friendly ghost.

So there you have it. Just a few of the little nothings that contribute to the strange…contentment, I think, that has come over me today.
