Quiet

Not too much to report these days, and I suppose no news is good news. Saw my possible future abode on Tuesday night. I’m trying very hard to think positively, especially since J&J put a bid on it last night and it looks like this might happen. There are just so many pros (saving lots of money, having live in dog sitters, a fenced in yard, getting out of my current house) and cons (living in such close quarters with others AND a baby, living in a city that I loathe, a longer drive to work) to think about that I’m not really sure how I feel any more. I guess we’ll see.

After some “accidental” web research yesterday (damn enhanced CDs) and a little supplemental reading, I’m now adopting a lifestyle that, though I’d always considered it and seen its merits, always thought was not only difficult, but, well (and thanks to my republican father, really) sort of flaky. No more animal products for me (ok…FINE…I’m keeping my docs…but c’mon, they were bought YEARS ago). I seriously don’t think I can do it anymore. I was so appalled and disgusted yesterday…and while on some level you kind of know what goes on…something about reading the facts, seeing the footage, hearing it all. The whole industry is so fucked up that it makes me sick.

That said, I now promise never to be one of those preachy, superior types. Nor will I turn into a complete weirdo (why is it that so many vegans I’ve known in my life have been so dang strange…?). I will only dispense information when asked.

So far, the first unexpected perk of such a diet presented itself while I was shopping at Mustard Seed for very expensive highly priced vegan/organic fare. I pretty much kept my eyes on the labels because I wanted to avoid running into a stuffy yuppie (high concentrations of them are found in both the neighborhood and the store). Anyhow, as I was searching for a replacement dog food for the beagles (because Iams is just…well, “unethical” doesn’t quite cut it), when I happened to look up (it was an accident, I swear) and see some very pretty people milling about. Granola types, to be sure, but definitely less yuppie than previously expected. Even the guy at the cash register was quite handsome. I was quite taken aback.

I look forward to my next visit.
