Mood:

School. Yay.

I went to My Intended Law School yesterday to drop off a check and poke around a bit. A mixture of intimidation and excitement followed. I moseyed around their web site again this morning and the excitement is definitely overtaking the intimidation. I’m now seriously considering a joint Master’s program and have enough extracurricular activities and electives planned to keep me occupied for at least a decade.

I’ve also decided, with much less fear than I’d anticipated with the decision, to quit my day job. I figure this might be my last chance to work on my education unhindered by family, children, or a mortgage, so I’m going for it. Plus My Intended Law School has a loan assistance repayment program for graduates who work in public interest/public service (what I really hope to do) and will pay my loans for three years. That’ll help matters.

Until then, I’m just sitting on pins and needles waiting for them to tell me how much money they’re going to give me (both in scholarships and, when I get my tax crap ironed out, financial aid). This week I did something really wild and crazy. I actually, brace yourself, READ my mail. Crazy, I know. I sorted through the piles and piles of recruitment materials from law schools that have arrived since my LSAT score was released. One school in particular (somewhere in Los Angeles) informed me that my LSAT scores and GPA made me eligible for a full-tuition scholarship. Nice. That’s pretty much what I’m hoping for from My Intended and I don’t really think I’m being all that unrealistic. Judging from the GPA/LSAT chart posted on-line profiling the applicants from last year, I rank in the top 5. That would be the top 5 students, not the top 5 percent.

Other than that, things are still great. The weather took a turn for the snowy/rainy here for a few days, and I’ve made the most of it by cuddling up with A and watching movies. Not a bad way to go. Hopefully things will take a turn for the sunny/warm here soon. I’m hankering for my bike rides more than ever, and A has some work to do on his boat that I’m sort of interested in checking out. Despite all of my pirate cracks, I’m sort of curious about this whole “sailing” thing. Apparently he’s way into it. I’d like to see for myself.

Tonight I have lofty plans involving the tearing up of my living room/dining room carpet, washing, sanding, and priming of walls, stripping of floors, and maybe the washing of dishes. Heh. Think I’ll get it all done? I’m thinking I’ll end up washing three dishes before saying “to hell with it!” and running off with A. Maybe I should turn on the invisible fence from back in the day when we were trying to train the beagles not to run (Hahahahaha! As if!) and strap on the zappy collar to insure that I get some work done.

It’s a plan.
