Dispatches from the City of Angels

I'm a writer and humorist living in and writing about Los Angeles. You can catch my novel LOSING CLEMENTINE out March 6 from William Morrow. In the meantime, feel free to poke around. Over at my website you can find even more blog entries than I could fit here, as well as a few other ramblings. Enjoy and come back often.

Snot: The saga

Where does snot come from? Seriously, does anyone know?

Up until my current cold/sinus infection/plague/punishment from God, I assumed it originated from somewhere in the vicinity of my upper nasal cavity. But there is no way that can possibly be right. No one has an entire head large enough to contain the kind of snot my body has generated in the past week. No one.

It defies the laws of physics.

To combat my nasal woes, I've gone from a heavy eucalyptus chest rub user (see previous post), to a hard-core addict. I carry it around with me. I have to have it within sight at all times. I put it on even when I've already got some.

"No, no," I say to my husband as he tries to pry the little jar out of my sweaty and shaking hand. "It's starting to wear off. I can tell. Give it to me! I NEED IT!"

There's going to have to be an intervention soon.
