A "G-Rated Journal" That Even My Mother Can Read (because she does!)

Effervescence is a state of mind. It's about choosing to bring sunshine to the day.
Every person I meet matters.

If it's written down, I know it (If it's not written down, I don't know it)
If it's color-coded, I understand it (If it's not color-coded, I don't understand it)

The Calendar, The Clutter

The Calendar, The Clutter - Remember my "I Live Like This" essay? It hasn't gotten much better yet, even though that was 5+ weeks ago. I noticed a major problem with getting caught up, as I was preparing for camping Highland over the Labor Day holiday. I feel like I haven't "really unpacked" since Estrella, in February.

Then I looked at my calendar for all of 2008:
  • Jan 5 - 12th Night, won Bard of Caid
  • Jan 12 - visit family for brunch, drive 3+ hours, attend Bardic Collegium, stay overnight
  • Jan 19 - Angels Melee
  • Jan 29 - visit friends from out-of-state
  • Feb 2 - Festival of the Rose, perform with my household
  • Feb 9 - brunch with friends, drive 1+ hr for Bardic circle in my Barony
  • Feb 13-18 - Estrella, camping 6 days in Arizona, big Bardic trip
  • Feb 23 - Lyondemere Arts & Archery, local bardic & artistic & evening feast
  • Mar 1 - Starkhafn Anniv, 2 days in Las Vegas with Lorccan, some bardic, some scribal work
  • Mar 7 Fri - dinner for my sister's birthday
  • Mar 9 Sun - gaming all day with friends
  • Mar 14-16 - Black Oak Lodge, camping 3 days in a cabin in Santa Barbara
  • Mar 16 - race home from BOL with roomie, Adrienne gives birth to Benjamin
  • Mar 22 - brunch with a friend, family BBQ for Easter weekend
  • Mar 29 - picnic in the park with friends
  • Apr 4-6 - King's Hunt, 3 days camping in Santa Barbara
  • Apr 12-13 - Crown Tourney, 2 days camping in Santa Barbara
  • Apr 19-20 - Passover, hostess for 24 guests in 2 nights of dinners
  • Apr 24 Thu - overnight out-of-town to see a friend from out-of-state
  • Apr 26 Sat - big SCA demo at local university, complete with my great wheel
  • Apr 27 Sun - Collegium class in AM, trip to the museum with friends in the PM
  • May 3-4 - camping in Santa Barbara for a friends' 40th birthday party
  • May 10 Sat - Altavia Anniversary, day in the park
  • May 11 Sun - Mother's day, with family

  • May 18 Sun - Arye's Senior Recital, in Santa Barbara
  • May 23-26 - Potrero War, camping 4 days east of San Diego
  • May 31 Sat - tea party at home with friends, dinner & stay over at the Nate's house
  • Jun 1 Sun - work day at Tonwen's, band studio recording at night

  • Aug 1-9 - Pennsic, 9 days camping in PA

  • Aug 29-Sep 1 - Highland War, camping 4 days in Victorville
  • Sep 6 - planning a day with the Grandparents

In 48 weeks -
  • Out for just SCA event & friends: 25 times
  • Family and/or Friends (non-SCA event): 28 times
  • Camping or Stay Overnight: 15 times
  • Weekend with almost nothing to do: Once

No wonder. I really HAVEN'T unpacked much this year. Just unload the car, stack everything in the living room or bedroom (or both), dump out the dirty clothing, do laundry, repack the bags, repack the car(s), and head out again. Occasionally my roomie and I throw a house party, just to have an excuse to clean-out the living room again.

I think my spinning tools are still in the box from the demo at Noe College in April. My coffee bar has never been *really* put away (just cleaned) since the birthday camping in early May, SCA camping in late May, the Fiber Retreat in June, the feast in my barony in July, Pennsic in August, Privy Council and Highland in August.

Oh, by the way, "Happy Flip the Calendar Day" just 3 days late. I'd switched my calendars at work before I'd gone camping for Labor Day weekend. I still need to flip all the calendars at home.

* * * * *
Today's Blessing That I'm Thankful For: My long-suffering roommate, who puts up with my clutter because she's agonizing over her own clutter
