Cat came to me this morning, pale as a ghost, and said, "I think we need to go to the Dr.'s office and get me some K+ (potassium) supplements and some Lomotil. The diarhhea is just horrible with these chemo pills, but she has to try and tolerate it, because the dosages she is on are what she has to have with the new liver lesions....anyway, off we went...she got a liter of IV Fluids and some bloodwork..we won't know what the K+ level is til tomorrow AM. Got a script for Lomotil (for diarrhea) and poor thing ate some grits, eggs, toast.....usually only eats one meal a day. Her daily PO intake is usually: 3 or 4 green teas (20 oz. size) 2 or 3 Dr. Peppers for sodium, and 5 or 6 20oz GatorAdes along with 2 or 3 20 oz H2O's. No freakin' wonder she isn't hungry. She says she sloshes when she walks...
We are going to try the BRAT diet (for those who aren't mommies...its "Bananas/Rice/Applesauce/Toast). She HATES rice, so does anyone have any simple, tasty fixes to do rice with (she has to avoid butter/fats/etc) I suggested we add some Chicken Broth to the brown rice... Its amazing what one sacrifices to grab some extra life dealing with cancer. We both know these drugs are poisons, toxins, and some healthy tissues, organs are sacrificed to stave off the cancer cells...but my gosh, what with all our technology and such, we ought to be able to do something that is less harsh...I am just "rambling", I know...it just hurts me to see her have to suffer so much...so far, we have been lucky, her heart function hasn't been compromised...and the Herceptin and the Tykerb both have a propensity to do such..its acts on the ejection fraction ratio of the heart....I know, that's technical "nurse lingo'.....sorry, guys.... Anyway, we didn't sleep too well last night. I am hoping she feels better tomorrow...we have 4 dachshunds of our own we rescued, and we are petsitting for a friend who has a male Cockapoo, Andy...he is a hoot all by himself...we have him til next Monday....:)....my 4 kids are my heart....they bring us such joy, and they are all so loving, and grateful to have a stable and loving home...2 are 5, one is 6, and one is around 16-18 yrs. old. She sticks to me like glue. I say I come home and open up the buttcheeks to let her climb in....lol...she is wherever I am...when I sandblast in the garage, she is right there...when I sleep, she is one with my backside or back, or head...when I shower, she rolls up my mat while I am in the shower...lol...she bites anyone who comes near me....I am hers, dammit, and hers alone! I have a pouch sling I wear and she gets inside it, and she is content to just hang on my belly all day if I let her...lol..anyway, thanks for all you stopping by, come on in anytime....sofa is always available, coffee pot is always fresh...(yea right) and I always love a stopover......hugs to you all.....Donna Read/Post Comments (6) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
