Lately I have been looking up my old high school alumni and hoping to reconnect with some old friends...I wasn't able to find my bestest friend from then, but did find her cousin's contact info, so made a call....excitedly....and didn't know the time zone difference....anyway, got to talk with the cousin, and will call my bestest friend here in a bit...I hope she is as excited to hear from me as I will be to hear from her. I hope I will surprise the heck out of her...
I am one of those folks, if someone is really special to me....I love them for years and years.....time/distance/absence doesn't change it one bit in my book....I have a friend here in the states whom I have stayed in touch with for 30 plus years...we fit...like two comfy old shoes, and we can go months and not talk, but when we do....its like "yesterday"'...know what I mean...she feels to me like a well worn, soft, jaded tee shirt....all soft, cottony..comfortable....I love people, and I get attached real easily....and I hurt forever when someone leaves my "circle"....I live where there is a Marine Recruiting Depot...so they come and go....I HATE when folks I am attached to leave....:)
I was very fortunate to have lived in Hawaii, on Oahu during the 60's...when the Summer of Love, the "flower child" era, and HippieDom was rampant. Thank goodness I was young enough to be naive and not go astray with drugs, LSD, Heroin, etc....one classmate died huffing Endust from an inflated balloon....I won't ever forget the service we held in the auditorium, Listen To The Lambs..not a dry eye in the bunch...she was just 17 years old....BUT I was fortunate to live on Oahu...a Melting Pot of the world....mainlanders, Samoans, Polynesians, Guamanians, and a lot of others....70% of us were military brats....yes, I was a Navy Brat....but people were so loving, so kind, and so gentle....I love the Polynesian cultures....sweet, sweet people, and the Filipinos....and some awesome food....
Anyway, I am just elated to think I may finally get to talk to someone I searched for many years for...wish me luck....:)
Will post later when I have called her....*sigh*
