2008-04-30 8:31 PM Miss Lillie Mood: Sad Read/Post Comments (2) |
Today I took a 3 yr. old. dachshund to a surgeon in another state, as a "down in the back" rescue group was going to take this baby....this is their forte!!!!
When I went to the owner's home...I filled out the 5 pages of "owner surrender" and said may I see the baby...I was shocked....that poor baby was in excruciating pain....dehydrated, and just in sad shape. I went right to my own vet for her to check her out, get some IV pain meds., and such. Her body temp. was critically low, she was in extreme pain, and full of feces and urine...she got a bag of fluids, steroids/pain meds/muscle relaxers IV...two and a half hours later, we went for the hour and a half ride to see the emergency surgeon....I had to leave her there as a rescue group was going to get her after surgery...we thought she was a great candidate for back surgery...late this evening I got a call from him....she had so much swelling of the impinged spinal cord, and slipped disc (being almost 4 days post injury) that she wasn't going to be able to have surgery. So, she was euthanized.....I cried and cried....I so wanted her to make it, and I would have drove back to be with her, just so she wouldn't be alone.......I am a sea of emotions.....pissed, angry, sad, and anything else that goes with that...this didn't have to happen this way.... all I can say is this...if someone can't afford tests or surgery, for gosh sakes, PLEASE get that pet to a VET within the first hours of an injury like this....there is only an 8 hour window to get help for this!!!! Those big brown, sad eyes will haunt me so...she didn't have to die!!!!! Not like this..... Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
