2008-05-08 8:36 AM MY Trip Mood: Happy |
Friday, May 2......my cousin and I set out on a great adventurous, journey. Our initial goal was to "just get to Philadelphia,PA. to get some equipment I was buying. My primary route was going to be straight up I-95 North!!! This was changed, due to a friend's recommendation...so I actually drove farther up and into some great scenery. We took I-95 to I-26 to I-77 then I-81....so we set out at 1pm EST. We drove thru SC to NC then into W. Va and VA. Talk about some breathtaking scenes.....the Shenandoah Valley was just spectacular...with those huge rock formations jutting out...trees growing out from them...rolling valleys, hills, and slopes....dotted with cattle grazing on sloping hillsides...them at 1am, we drove past the VA Tech campus. I didn't realize we were in Blacksburg until I looked around and saw HOKIE NATION all over the place!!!! I so wanted to stop, touch the stones and feel a part of history, however tragic it was!!! But being the wee hour it was, I didn't figure we would be able to get on campus....
So, we continued....we crossed over the Susquehanna River....what an amazing river!!!! We drove right alongside the Harley Davidson plant, the Franklin Mint, we took time to visit Gettysburg Battlefield.....the vast fields covered with little yellow flowers.....the history...the monuments, the feel of the land was just spectacular!!! We made our way into the Pennsylvania Dutch country....and what a beautiful place this is....words can't describe it....its like you step back in time...the smells of the freshly plowed fields....the mouthwatering BBQ (which I stopped and bought 2 pints of ,along with the Infamous SHOO FLY PIE....that came home with me...and the shops loaded with Native Pa. Dutch products....you MUST make a trip if you have never gone to this area before...we saw the farmers plowing the "old fashioned" way....the dog running alongside....the buggies with the donkeys pulling them along the main highway....their mannerisms...their naivete'...such a gentle, humble people they are...I would loved to have spent a couple days there.... Anyway, I finally found my destination Saturday evening at 7pm...loaded up my goods, and we drove back down I-95 a straight shot. So, we found our way thru Pa., Md., Delaware, W.Va., Va., NC, and finally HOME!!!! I made the journey in 52 hrs....and was I ever TIRED!!! But the experiences we shared, as my cousin from Texas was with me...she flew in Thursday to make this trip with me...we have so much to make up for...we missed Flea and Gayla.....:( My cousin was just in awe as she had never seen this before either!!! PRICELESS......... Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
