Christine's New Chapter
Never look down...

DEMON SOUL was released in MARCH, 2011 by Crescent Moon Press. DEMON HUNT will most likely be released 2012. This, then, is my new reality! The tumor has been removed and I'm recovering, so now it's all about the writing...and dealing with the writing.

Saturday SHREW

Typically, the second show of any type of run at all tends to be a letdown. Energy drops, mishaps occur on technical and actor levels, things disappear.

Last night was no exception.

Bianca had every body mic problem known to man. The mic fell off her. It got tangled in her hair. The body pack slipped down her skirt and dangled between her knees. Poor soul, she was so glad at the end of the show! Had a marvelous sense of humor about it, though.

The opening of the show was slow, sluggish. It wasn't until Gremio and Hortensio appeared on the scene that it got kicked up a notch, energy-wise; but then the show had the regrettable tendency to drop in pace after they left or had no more lines.

Me, I forgot one bit of business, muddied the words in a few of the madrigals, as the Widow I slipped in my curtsey and ended up on my tender right knee and then, going up stage, tripped over the step (or was that my skirt? hmmm) and fell, landed on my right knee AGAIN and both hands (luckily behind everyone else), thus dislodging my too-big wig...sigh.

In the second act, there were other mishaps - props left on stage that needed to be cleared, skirts that dragged and caught, my fan (as the Widow, I carry a lovely black and gold lace fan - my own) snapped a few more sticks during the fight with Kate, and at the end when she brings Bianca and I back onstage, I get tossed to the stage floor and I landed on my right knee again. I was so pissed at that point that, in my frustration and no longer having a fan to show my displeasure, I whacked Hortensio in the stomach with my fist. Which got a laugh so that soothed my irritation.

More friends in the audience, more congratulations, and a possible nibble at a job doing TYAs in the high schools around Los Angeles (Theatre for Young Audiences). I've promised to get a picture and resume out to our Tranio today - a sweetie of a guy in his 30s who should be working soap operas if not series television.

So I guess I'm sorta back in the game. Time to learn the Nurse from Romeo and Juliet.

We got home, talked with the kids who had a fun time at the Galaxy game (we won, 4-1), made some Coquilles St. Jacques and drank champagne, took ibuprofen and fell into bed about 1am.

Two down, one to go.
