What is old is new again

Last night as I clearing off my desk to leave, my AVON lady dropped off the latest book(s). As I looked through the main book I realized that what was old is now new. They are selling 'body shaper' undergarments in the book.

I know body shapers have been around for a few years-elastic/spandex/nylon to push your body into the "shape you want." Needless to say, the shapes where hourglass and thin. But where have we really gone. Was the bra burning of the 60's and 70's for nothing? Have we forgotten what that really was about? Shaping our bodies for fashion as decreed by 'them' or 'they'. If you have done any reading in historical novels or even straight up history-well what those spandex items do now, whale bone and stiff metal did in the past-push us into a shape our body doesn't want to be in. I am not talking about a bra fighting gravity. As much as I wish I did not have to wear an 'over the shoulder boulder holder', I know my body feels better with that support, not to mention clothes hanging better. These are shapers that replace girdles-the old fashioned I can't breathe type.

Now, before you say give it a chance- I will tell you a secret. I have 2 styles of these spandex shapers in my dresser. I will not wear them, even though they push in and pull up what they are suppose to. They are hot and I am too old to want to glow (sweat) all day. Did I miss something in the passage of the last 30-40 years? Has it now become acceptable to push your body out of natural alignment to fit the clothes that designers make? Or am I just to lazy to want to put that much effort into covering my body? Can someone let me know what is going ON?

In other news, I did crochet last night. I started working on a baby hat. I used two strands of baby yarn-yellow and baby green. It is coming along. I know I don't have enough yellow to finish the hat, but I have baby multi color that will be worked in. I won't make a scarf, but I will add ties to this hat.

We watched Hell's Kitchen last night. The girls team just can't get it together. In the past seasons, by this time you saw some leaders on both teams. None of the ladies impress me. (although the guy that I liked is now injured but still working fracture in his hand or not). How can you mess up a steak? The girl managing the grill did that with no problem. Every station she has been on has become a disaster. Glad she is gone. I do hope one of the ladies becomes stronger soon.

Have a great day.
