Surprise!!!

It has to happen to me.

I was doing my normal lunch coverage. Except I was playing on my phone since I didn't have anything with me and the computer that has had me on it for the past 4 years all of a sudden said that it didn't recognize me. I had already made the appropriate phone calls. I was being unobtrusive. No complaints by anyone, everyone knew why I was not doing my normal stuff.

Anyway, it is 3 minutes before secretary is due back and then my boss's, boss's, boss's, boss's, BOSS walks in the door. First I have only seen this gentleman 1 time. He is boss is the Commissioner of our Agency. So I ask him his name. He says it, I jump up, say my name and extend my hand to shake it. HE. WAS. NOT. EXPECTED!! I ask, "What can we do for you?" He asks to see my boss's boss. I knock on her door, she is on the phone. I politely say, "MR. Big Boss is here to see you." "Mr. Boss is here?" is her response. "Mr. Boss is here. May I show him in?" She nods her head and is gulping trying to calm herself down. I walk back into the open area and show him into the door. I sit down, and then the secretary walks in!

When I tell her who is in the office, her eyes get wide! This is not the first time that big bosses have surprised me. It just seems that it always happens on MY watch! LOL!!!

The way I jumped up, I realize now, was the way I would have reacted in the ARMY, only instead of a salute, it was a handshake! I don't know if it was totally proper protocal, but standing up is always a sign of respect, right?
