NCIS and adoption surprises

DH and I like to watch NCIS and its spinoff NCIS LA. Last night NCIS had a twist which got into the personal life and back ground of one of their lab gurus-Abby. Abby is a little different. She is into Goth-a bit, but not a dark character. She loves animals, and except for her youth, she is the 'mama' figure. Most of the time. The show started with her being all excited because she was a match to be a kidney donor for a young boy in her church. She was getting ready to go to the hospital for more screening and counseling etc. Next time we see her, she is talking to the coronor, who would be the kindly 'uncle'. During her counseling, it came out that there was a young man who was also a match, who's dna matched Abby's. Abby is good at getting information out of people and knows about dna etc. so was more informed that the average donor candidate. The counselor could not tell her who the candidate was or any definate info. Abby was trying to figure out how this could be, since her parents are deceased, and were loving parents to her and her siblings. Her older aunt has dementia and couldn't answer any questions. Abby's mind was not on her work and was not really helping her team with their case. Finally, Gibbs-their boss, directs the computer geek to see what he can find out about the other donor. He has a friend -they get a name, and of course, it being TV, they find out who he is and get an address. Abby goes to see him where he is working-at a animal rescue. They see each other through the window. (the actor must be a relative-exact face structure and hair and eye coloring). Abby doesn't say that they are relatives but now she is more confused-nothing is matching up. The only thing she had was a locket with a picture of her mom and a clip of her mom's hair. Yes, very morbid. Abby did a dna test of a strand of hair-she is not her mothers child. Shock. She is lost now. WHO IS SHE?

Gibbs plays the father figure in the series to her alot. IN this case he tries to tell her that her parents are the people who raised her. Part of her agrees. But there is a part of her that disagrees. Why didn't they tell her? Were they ashamed? Were they afraid? What were they hiding? Why did her biological parents give her up? What was the secret?

I guess this really hit home with me. I am adopted. I knew it from day one-I was 5, sister was 3. I remember the official day. I described to my father perfectly when I was 14. He was surprised at the detail. I described the courtroom floor, my behavior, the questions the judge asked me, what the judge's desk looked like, and I remembered the judge's name-what triggered the conversation was the news announcement that the judge had passed away. My sister did not believe that I remembered all of that detail. She did not remember any of it. But she was only 3. How could she.
